October 25, 2014 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

obama-signs-executive-order2It’s the kind of subject that most business publications prefer to ignore. But this business publication will tell you the truth.

And the truth in question here is simply this: when two major, long-standing American media outlets  – one leaning to the left, the other leaning to the right – both publish news and analysis detailing lies and corruption surrounding President Barack Obama’s plans to grant amnesty to tens of millions of illegal immigrants, and the devastating impact those plans will have on American law enforcement, business, and labor, the nation’s small business owners should be alarmed.

Uber female driver bannerUber.Com. AirBnB.Com. TaskRabbit.Com. What are these websites about, and why are they so controversial?

Let’s be clear: these websites, and others like them, are online hubs for what is best described as the emerging “freelance services industries.”  The service providers you find through these websites are most certainly feelancers,  not established corporate business owners or employees of other peoples’ companies.

If you want to be a freelance service provider, Uber.Com has a screening process whereby you can register to deliver transportation services. [Read more…]

The Courage To Create: Entrepreneur Builds Business Helping People Escape Maryland

October 21, 2014 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

EricCaryheadshot_nTaxes and government regulations are driving businesses out of the state of Maryland, and voters in “The Chesapeake State” seem ready to vote for more of the same in this year’s elections.

But amid the chaos, one creative business owner is finding a way to capitalize – by helping people flee the state.

“I’ve tried to focus my business efforts on people’s true necessities,” notes Eric Cary.

A self-described “serial entrepreneur,” Cary operates as a licensed realtor that specializes in assisting private individuals and businesses to relocate out of the state of Maryland.

“The word has gotten around that we’ve gotten pretty crazy here in Maryland, to the point that we even tax the rain” he says (search “Maryland rain tax” for further details). “But people will always need places where they can live and operate their businesses, and that means that properties will always need to be bought and sold.” [Read more…]

Alibaba: Opening Global Markets For American Small Business Owners?

October 8, 2014 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

unnamedAlibaba.

What was once the name of an ancient folkloric character (actually the folk tale character’s name was spelled “Ali Baba” ) is now the name of a global online shopping destination that just turned Wall Street upside down a couple of weeks ago.

Branding and marketing expert Kim Garretson suspects that Alibaba could also do amazing things for American small business owners, as well.

“It will be some time before it produces” Garretson, a veteran of retailers Best Buy and Target announced on Austin Hill’s BigWorld of SmallBusiness. . “Still, they are aggressively recruiting staff here in the U.S., and it will be very interesting what kind of management team they put together. They intend to do very well here, and this could mean big opportunity for small business owners.” [Read more…]
