George Stavros - Pacesetter - headshot“Your day of golf might be special for different reasons,” notes tech entrepreneur George Stavros.

“Maybe it’s playing well; maybe it’s a fun day with friends” he says. “But certainly what will not make it special is a frustrating wait.”

Stavros is the Founder and C.E.O. of Pacesetter Technology. And based on my recent discussion with him as he joined us in the Big World of Small Business, it seems that his love of technology and entrepreneurship might be propelling him forward towards revolutionizing the game that he dearly loves, as well as the clubs where people play that game. Small Business in Parkland, Florida

Rising Tide staff photoA small business in Parkland, Florida is blazing new trails in their industry.

And they’re doing it with a staff that consists largely of adults living with what a condition that is usually regarded as a huge disability – autism.

Kevin Wolyniec, General Manager of Rising Tide Carwash

“We are not selling sympathy” notes Kevin Wolyniec, General Manager of Rising Tide Carwash.

“We’re located .9 miles away from one of the best carwash businesses in the nation. The fact that we are growing so rapidly really says something about our staff, our people. This is manual labor, long hours in the Florida sun and humidity, and we have the best crew” he says. [Read more…]

April 2, 2015 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

Kevin GilroyThe millennial generation may have plenty of critics. But a leader in one of the world’s cutting-edge technology companies envisions great achievements ahead for what is sometimes referred to as “generation Y,” and both he and the company he leads is ready to do business with them. “Having three millennials living in my house, I’m most certainly interested in them!” quips Kevin Gilroy, Sr. Vice President for the global small and mid-market segment at SAP Technology.

Listen to the Interview Here

https://austinsbigworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/AH-Bigworld-seg-Kevin-Gilroy-millennials.mp3

Gilroy joined me in the BigWorld of SmallBusiness and said that “from a business perspective, when we look at where the money is going, 75% of the workforce will be millennials by 2025. Already today we’re seeing millennials running many small and medium companies and at minimum, influencing the technology decisions of most SME companies around the world.” [Read more…]

March 22, 2015 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

Gregg StebbenWhy would anybody want to manage a small business from a mobile phone or a tablet?

“Most small business owners don’t manage their money very well” says tech expert Gregg Stebben. “Most of us would benefit from being able to keep track of our assets and resources more easily…”

Stebben is a radio host and the tech editor at Men’s Health Magazine. He also owns a small business himself, so I call on him frequently to enter the BigWorld of SmallBusiness and inform us about new technologies that can help small business owners. [Read more…]

The message was from a personal friend, and included a link.

“What Do I Do Next?” Actor Dwight Equitz Navigates UFO’s, A Hit TV Series, And Owning A Small Business

January 29, 2015 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

jpegThat simple question has helped guide Dwight Equitz as he has worked for years weaving an acting career together with small business ownership.

Today he says that it’s an important question for all business professionals to be asking on a regular basis.

“Frankly, these might be the five most important words a person can say” he notes.

Equitz is perhaps most widely known as a cast member of the hit TV series “Hangar 1: The U.F.O. Files,” now in its second season from the History Channel (“H2”).  But his current success has not been instantaneous; he’s been cultivating his acting career and his own small business for almost three decades.

“It was about twenty-six years ago that I met my wife Leslie, and at that time her father was running his own company” he explains. At that point, Equitz had worked in a variety of different business and sales positions, and as his relationship developed with his future wife, he set his sights on buying the business from his future father-in-law. AirBnB.Com Host Sets The Pace For The Challenges To Freelance Service Providers

January 16, 2015 By Austin Hill Leave a Comment

If you own a house or car, you’re mostly free to do what you want with it, even make a little extra money with it – right?

Depending on where you live the answer to that question may be a resounding “no.” And for many people who are providers in the burgeoning freelance services economy – where consumers purchase rooms for rent, household labor and ridesharing services online – the harsh reality is that current state and local laws are generally supportive of established hotel and taxi businesses, but are prohibitive at times to the independent operators.

That’s been the lesson of Raleigh, North Carolina resident Gregg Stebben. In addition to owning his own company, co-hosting a technology talk show and working as the Tech Editor at Men’s Health Magazine, Gregg and his wife Jody Stebben own a house in Raleigh and last year became services providers – known as “hosts” – through AirBnb.Com, the new online venture that matches travelers in search of lodging with private homes, extra bedrooms and couches for rent.

“If you want to be in business, that usually involves doing some things that you don’t necessarily like” Stebben says. “In our case we end up scrubbing toilets and changing bed sheets, but that’s okay, we signed up for this.” [Read more…]
